Adults only. Janitor AI and most alternatives here are for users aged 18 and over. This guide is non-explicit.

How this guide was made. This is a documentation-based comparison from official terms, help centres, docs and app store listings read on 18 October 2026. We did not use paid accounts. Prices are US prices, “checked 18 October 2026”.

What Janitor AI offers, according to its own pages

Before comparing, it helps to be precise about what you would be leaving:

  • Audience: its terms say the platform is “intended solely for users who are at least 18”. Its homepage says “Join 15M+ users”.
  • Content: its content guidelines permit adult content between consenting adult characters, with a long prohibited list. Character images must not be explicit.
  • Model and memory: its in-house model, JLLM, reads “around 8k-9k tokens” of context, according to its memory guide. Older messages drop out when the window fills.
  • Personas: a default persona you can edit, with the option to swap.
  • Creator tools: a character creation page, “Scripts” for triggers, events and lorebooks, and custom CSS.
  • Proxies: the terms say configuring an API proxy in your settings is allowed, while unofficial clients and modified apps are not.
  • Paid plan: Janitor+ Monthly $12.99 and Janitor+ Annual $99.00 on the US App Store.
  • Apps: official iOS and Android apps. The app has adult content off by default to meet store rules.

Why people switch

Based on Janitor AI’s own help centre and terms, these are the trade-offs most likely to push someone elsewhere:

  1. Forgetting. An 8K to 9K token window fills quickly in long stories.
  2. Setup. Using larger third-party models means proxies or paid Router credits.
  3. Mobile limits. The app version starts more restricted than the website.
  4. Credits. The terms say Router credits can be used even when a request is cancelled, filtered or interrupted after processing starts.

If your issue is a broader one with Character.AI-style apps, our pillar guide to Character AI alternatives covers the full criteria framework.

The alternatives

SpicyChat

The closest match on paper. Its guidelines require users to be 18 or older, and it has NSFW display and blur settings.

  • Memory: 4K context on Get A Taste, 8K on True Supporter, up to 32K on I’m All In, plus a Memory Manager and “Semantic Memory 2.0” on True Supporter.
  • Personas: up to 10, 50 or 100 by paid tier.
  • Group chat: 2 to 10 chatbots, available to free and paid users. Auto Response, where the system picks the next speaker, is premium.
  • Creator tools: Lorebook, Director Mode and an Importing Characters guide.
  • Price (checked 18 October 2026): $5.95, $19.95 or $29.95 a month; $60.00, $199.95 or $299.95 a year.
  • Apps: Android APK from its own site; no native iOS app.

Best for: Janitor users who want published memory sizes without configuring a proxy. Watch out for: the Android app is installed outside Google Play.

CrushOn AI

Each character has a Filtered, Unfiltered or 18+ rating. The site shows a Didit age verification flow for mature content.

  • Memory: save memory and auto-summarised memories.
  • Personas: profile cards per chat.
  • Group chat: up to 5 characters, subscribers only.
  • Price: Free, Standard, Premium and Deluxe plans exist, but prices did not load on the pages we could read (unknown).

Best for: people who want each character’s content level labelled. Watch out for: messages are capped by plan, with coins buying bonus messages. Compare it in Candy AI vs CrushOn AI.

Chai

Chai’s EULA restricts use to adults and allows mature themes, but prohibits sexually explicit images and videos.

  • Price (US App Store, checked 18 October 2026): Premium (Monthly) $13.99, Ultra (Monthly) $29.99.
  • Platforms: iOS and Android; web listed as “Coming Soon”.
  • Memory and personas: unknown from the pages we read.

Best for: quick mobile chats. Watch out for: recent store reviews often mention daily limits and coins. See Chai AI alternatives.

Character.AI

Filtered: its help centre says pornographic content is against its terms. But it offers free, unlimited messaging, free voice calls, group chats and Lorebooks. Its import guide says Lorebooks are in beta for c.ai+ subscribers and accept JSON or plain text.

  • Price (US App Store, checked 18 October 2026): Character.AI Lite $4.99; Character.AI+ $9.99 or $94.99.

Best for: Janitor users who mainly want SFW stories with a big library. Watch out for: full chat requires age verification as 18 or older.

Nomi

Nomi says it is “unfiltered and uncensored” and free to start without a card. It describes short, medium and long-term memory and group chats.

  • Price (US App Store, checked 18 October 2026): Standard Plan $15.99, yearly $99.99.

Best for: one or a few long-running companions instead of a bot library. Watch out for: its descriptions focus on your own Nomis rather than a public bot library.

Kindroid

Its App Store listing describes custom backstories, “key memories”, selfies and voice calls.

  • Price (US App Store, checked 18 October 2026): $15.99 a month, $159.99 a year, with Ultra and MAX tiers.

Best for: designing one detailed companion. Watch out for: selfie and audio credits are sold separately.

Moving your stories safely

  • Export first. Save your character definitions and any memory notes as text before you leave.
  • Respect creators. Only import characters you wrote or have permission to reuse. Janitor AI’s terms and most alternatives prohibit infringing content.
  • Rebuild memory. Paste your most important memory notes into the new app’s memory tool, keeping them short. Janitor’s own template (environment, relationship, plot points, notes) works anywhere.
  • Cancel the right way. Janitor AI’s terms say web subscriptions are cancelled in Settings, Billing, Manage subscription, while app store purchases follow the store’s rules. Our cancel guide has the steps.

Our roleplay studio can help you rewrite a character sheet in a portable format, and the companion matcher suggests a shortlist.

Bottom line

If you like Janitor AI’s adult storytelling but want more memory without proxies, SpicyChat’s published tiers are the most direct comparison. If you want labelled content levels, look at CrushOn AI. If you are happy with SFW stories, Character.AI’s free tier is still generous. Check prices and policies on the day you subscribe, since both Janitor AI’s terms and SpicyChat’s pricing changed in the last few weeks.

Frequently asked questions

Why do people look for Janitor AI alternatives?

Common reasons are memory limits on the in-house model, the extra setup of API proxies and the more restricted mobile app. Janitor AI's help centre says its in-house model reads around 8,000 to 9,000 tokens, so long stories lose early details.

Is there a Janitor AI alternative with bigger memory?

SpicyChat publishes the clearest numbers: 4K context on its entry paid tier, 8K on True Supporter and up to 32K on I'm All In, with a Memory Manager. Nomi and Kindroid describe long-term memory but do not publish a size.

Can I move my Janitor AI characters to another app?

Sometimes. SpicyChat has an Importing Characters guide and Character.AI accepts imported Lorebooks in JSON or plain text. Only import characters you created or have permission to use.

Is the Janitor AI app the same as the website?

Not by default. Janitor AI's help centre says the mobile app disables adult content when first installed, to comply with App Store and Google Play rules, and explains how to sync settings.

What does janitor+ cost?

The US App Store lists Janitor+ Monthly at $12.99 and Janitor+ Annual at $99.00, checked 18 October 2026. Router credits for third-party models are a separate paid system described in the terms.
