Is Candy AI free? What the free plan gives you, and what it costs after

Is Candy AI free to use?

Free to join, not free to use for long. Candy AI’s pages show “Join Free” and “Create Free Account” buttons, and its character library can be browsed without an account. But the Terms of Service (revision of 22 September 2026) are plain about the limit:

“As a free user, you may generally send a maximum of 5 messages to AI Characters. Further use requires a subscription.”

So the free account is a preview: enough to see how a character writes, not enough for a conversation. “Generally” means the number can vary, so plan on about 5.

What does the free account include?

“Not listed as free” means the subscriptions page lists these as premium benefits and we found nothing saying free users get them. Candy AI does not publish what each image, video or voice message costs in tokens.

How much does Candy AI cost after the free messages?

On 27 October 2026 the subscriptions page showed:

Local taxes may be added. All plans renew automatically until you cancel.

Which way of paying is cheapest?

Over a year, the 12-month plan is the cheapest by far:

• 12 months: $47.88.
• Monthly: $9.99 + 11 x $13.99 = $163.88.
• Every 2 weeks: 26 x $9.79 = $254.54.
• Weekly: 52 x $5.60 = $291.20.

The small weekly payment looks cheapest at checkout and is the most expensive way to keep Candy AI for a year. The monthly plan overtakes the 12-month plan in month 4 ($9.99 + 3 x $13.99 = $51.96), so the annual plan only saves money if you will still be using it after three months. Is there a Candy AI free trial?

We found no free trial of the paid plans on the subscriptions page or in the Terms on 27 October 2026. In practice, the free account’s few messages are the trial, and the closest thing to a paid trial is the monthly plan’s first month at $9.99.

If you buy and change your mind, act fast. The Terms allow a refund request within 24 hours of payment, and a refund is refused if more than 20 tokens have been used, however soon you ask. EU and UK residents have a separate section in the Terms.

What happens if you cancel?

The Terms say you keep premium access until the end of the period you paid for. After that the account “will revert to a free version of the platform”, premium features stop, and any remaining tokens “will expire and become unusable”. Use your tokens before the period ends. What do users say about the cost?

Candy AI’s own subscriptions page carries short testimonials, which are marketing, not independent reports. Independent comments are fewer. One former Candy AI user on r/Chatbots (21 October 2026) said the subscription itself was acceptable but that buying extra coins for calling on top of it made Candy AI expensive. That matches the structure: 100 tokens a month are included, and heavy use of voice or images can mean buying more.

Free alternatives to Candy AI

If you want to chat for longer before paying, these adult apps have a bigger free start:

• Nectar AI. Its FAQ (27 October 2026) says the free plan includes the character creator, AI chat and a limited number of image generations; premium adds unlimited messaging and extended memory. Its pricing page showed no prices to us. Try Nectar AI free (affiliate link).

Is a free Candy AI account worth making?

Yes, if you want to see whether a character’s writing suits you before paying: it costs nothing and takes a few messages. It will not show you images, voice, video or memory over time, which are what the plans sell. If you decide to pay, the 12-month plan is the cheapest per month, but only start it if you expect to use Candy AI past month three; otherwise pay monthly. • The exact free message count for every account. The Terms say “generally” 5.

• Whether prices differ by country. The page we read showed USD and said local taxes may apply.

Candy AI is free to join and free for about 5 messages. Everything that makes it a companion app, unlimited chat, your own characters, images, video and voice, needs a plan, from $3.99 a month on 12 months (billed $47.88) or $9.99 for a first month. Pick the yearly plan only if you will stay past month three, ask for any refund within 24 hours, and if you want a longer free start, try Nectar AI or SpicyChat first.
