AI girlfriend apps in 2026: 7 apps compared on price, free limits, calls and privacy

What is an AI girlfriend app?

An AI girlfriend app is a companion chat app where a female AI character plays a romantic partner. People who search for one usually want one of three things:

• A ready-made girlfriend character, picked from a library. Candy AI’s Girls category and SpicyChat’s character library work this way.
• A girlfriend you design yourself: her look, personality and backstory. Nectar AI and Candy AI’s character builder are built for this, and Nomi and Kindroid let you write a backstory.
• A relationship setting on a general companion app. On Replika, for example, your companion starts as a friend and Romantic Partner is a paid relationship status, according to its help centre.

The differences that matter for your wallet are the free limits, whether images, voice and calls cost extra, and how the app handles your chats. The table below puts those side by side.

How do the 7 apps compare?

Prices change and can differ by country, platform and promotion. The official page on the day you pay is the final word.

Which AI girlfriend app fits what you want?

• Cheapest published plan with everything in one place: Candy AI. One subscription covers unlimited text and 100 tokens a month for images, video and voice. The catch is a tiny free allowance, so you will be asked to pay quickly. See Candy AI’s girlfriend characters (affiliate link).
• A girlfriend you build yourself and want to call: Nectar AI. Its free plan includes the creator, and calls arrived on 15 October 2026. You will only see the plan price inside your account. Try Nectar AI’s creator (affiliate link).
• Memory over months: Nomi. It is the app users most often praise for remembering, and you can start without a card. See Nomi vs Replika.
• A gentle, friend-first companion: Replika. Romance is a paid setting rather than the point of the app.

The apps, from their own pages

Candy AI

Candy AI is run by EverAI Limited, a Malta company. Its homepage groups characters into Girls, Anime and Guys, and its AI girlfriend page describes prebuilt characters “each with unique personalities, communication styles, and vibes”, who adjust to “your style, preferences, and mood” as you chat. It runs in the browser on desktop or mobile, so there is nothing to install.

On 27 October 2026 the subscriptions page showed three plans: 12 months at $3.99 a month (billed $47.88), 3 months at $8.99 a month (billed $26.97), and 1 month at $9.99 for the first month, then $13.99 a month. The payment options also listed billing every 2 weeks ($9.79) and weekly ($5.60). All plans renew automatically. The premium benefits listed are creating your own AI girlfriends, generating images and videos, unlimited text messages and 100 tokens a month.

The free allowance is the weak point (our guide to whether Candy AI is free has the details). Candy AI’s Terms of Service (revision of 22 September 2026) say a free user “may generally send a maximum of 5 messages” before a subscription is needed. Refunds can be requested within 24 hours of payment and are refused once more than 20 tokens have been used. Tokens left at the end of a paid period expire.

Nectar AI

Nectar AI’s FAQ (read 27 October 2026) calls it “an adult AI companion platform for users 18 and over” where you design a companion’s appearance, personality and backstory, then chat, roleplay and generate images and video. The creator walks you through appearance, body type, ethnicity, outfit, personality traits and backstory, and the FAQ says most characters are ready “within minutes”. Styles include realistic and anime.

The FAQ says the free plan includes the character creator, AI chat and a limited number of image generations, and that premium plans add unlimited messaging, extended memory, HD image and video generation and more AI models. Credits pay for premium actions. On 20 October 2026 its pricing page showed a free allowance of 15 messages a day; on 27 October the pricing page showed us no plan prices at all, so check the price in your account before paying. Its terms (version 2.2) call fees non-refundable except where the law requires.

Nectar’s official subreddit announced voice and video calls on 15 October 2026. The FAQ says chats are private and “not used to train external AI models”. Try Nectar AI (affiliate link).

Nomi

Nomi has its own AI girlfriend page and is known above all for memory: its App Store listing promises strong short and long-term memory. You can start free with no card. The US App Store listed the Standard plan at $15.99 a month or $99.99 a year on 26 October 2026, and voice calls come with a subscription. What users report: 13 of the 50 newest US App Store reviews we read on 26 October 2026 complained about slow or broken voice calls, so judge calls on a monthly plan first.

Replika

Replika is a friend-first companion with a 3D avatar, run by Luka, Inc. Its help centre says Friend is the free relationship status and Romantic Partner needs Replika Pro. US App Store prices on 26 October 2026 ran from $7.99 to $14.99 a month and $49.99 to $69.99 a year. Its privacy policy (27 May 2026) says it does not sell personal information. Kindroid

Kindroid lets you write a companion’s backstory and design an avatar, with voice and video calls on paid plans. Its unlimited free messaging ended on 1 October 2026: new free accounts get a one-time 50-message preview. The US App Store lists $15.99 a month, $42.99 for 3 months or $159.99 a year (checked 22 October 2026), and its docs describe a 3-day trial that needs a payment method. SpicyChat and CrushOn AI

These are character libraries rather than one-girlfriend apps. SpicyChat’s paid tiers cost $5.95, $19.95 or $29.95 a month since 8 September 2026, and the free tier has no published message cap; see is SpicyChat Premium worth it?. CrushOn AI, run by TECHIEPIE LTD in Cyprus, rates characters as Filtered, Unfiltered or 18+ and keeps saved memories, but its prices did not load on the pages we could read; see Candy AI vs CrushOn AI. What does an AI girlfriend really cost?

The headline price is rarely the bill. Three things move it:

1. Plan length. Candy AI’s $3.99 a month is billed as $47.88 up front for 12 months. Its monthly plan costs $9.99, then $13.99 a month, so the yearly plan only saves money if you will still use it after about three months.
2. Tokens and credits. Images, video, voice and calls usually spend tokens or credits on top of the subscription. Candy AI includes 100 tokens a month that expire; Nectar AI sells credits for calls and media.
3. Where you pay. App store prices can differ from website prices, and an app store subscription has to be cancelled in the store, not in the app.

Is an AI girlfriend app private and safe?

Treat every message, photo and voice note as stored data. Before you start:

• Check where chats go. Candy AI’s privacy notice says third-party AI providers may receive the content of your messages. Nectar AI says chats are not used to train external models. Read the training and retention sections of any app you use.
• Keep identifying details out. Your full name, address, workplace, and anything about real people.

What we could not verify

• Nectar AI’s plan prices. Its pricing page showed no prices to us on 27 October 2026.
• CrushOn AI’s prices and free limits. Not published on the pages we could read.
• Token costs per image, voice minute or call on Candy AI. Candy AI does not publish them.
• How good any of these girlfriends feels to talk to. That needs hands-on use, which this guide does not claim.

Bottom line

For most adults comparing AI girlfriend apps, the shortlist is Candy AI and Nectar AI. Candy AI has the clearest published price and puts chat, images and voice in one plan, but its free allowance is about 5 messages. Nectar AI lets you build her yourself on a free plan and now has calls, but you will only see its price inside your account. If memory matters most, look at Nomi; if you want a softer, friend-first companion, Replika. Whatever you choose, start monthly, read the privacy notice, and keep personal details out of the chat.
