Chub AI Not Working? Outages, Blank Pages and Generation Errors
Chub AI down, stuck on replying or showing a blank page? How to check for an outage, what common errors mean, and fixes for API and browser problems.
Built from the product's official documentation, pricing and policy pages, not from our own hands-on use. How we review
Chub AI is a character chat and roleplay platform that lets you connect a range of AI models, including its own. That flexibility also means more places for things to break. A reply stuck on “replying”, a blank page or an error pop-up can come from Chub, from the model provider you connected, or from your own browser.
This guide helps you work out which, and what to do. It is documentation-based. Chub’s official docs cover setup but say little about troubleshooting, so a lot of the error detail here comes from third-party guides and community reports, and we label it that way. We have not reproduced these errors ourselves. Chub describes itself as uncensored, so treat it as an adults-only platform; this guide stays on the technical side.
How Chub’s setup affects errors
Chub’s documentation explains that you choose an API under Secrets before you can chat. Its API Connections page lists options including Chub’s own Mars models by subscription, OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, OpenRouter, NovelAI, and Kobold or Ooba for models you host yourself. Prompts and generation parameters live under Configuration, reached from the menu in the top right.
So an error during a reply may have nothing to do with Chub’s website. If you use your own key with an outside provider, that provider’s limits and outages apply. Chub’s docs also recommend official API keys over reverse proxies, which it describes as risky for privacy and reliability.
First, check whether it is them
- Chub’s status page. Third-party guides point to chub.ai/status, which reportedly shows API and model health. We could not load its contents for this guide.
- Community reports. During outages, r/Chub_AI tends to fill with posts about the same symptom. RoboRhythms reports that past outages showed 502 and 503 errors and blank screens on both mobile and desktop, and that they usually lasted from thirty minutes to a few hours. Those durations are a single site’s estimate.
- Trackers. Sites such as Toolify keep uptime logs, but snapshots can be stale. Toolify also notes a service can be partly down, for example the API, while the main site loads.
Is it you or them?
| Symptom | Likely side | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| 502 or 503, many users reporting | Chub | Wait; check status page |
| Blank blue page, others fine | Your browser cache | Hard refresh and clear site cache |
| Stuck on “replying” on Chub’s own model | Chub or model load | Wait or try another Chub model |
| Error only with your own API key | Your provider or key | Provider fixes below |
| “Please log in” or authentication error | Expired session | Log in again or refresh |
| Reply is gibberish or the wrong language | Model glitch | Regenerate or start a new chat |
Common errors and what users report they mean
Chub’s docs do not list error messages, so these interpretations come from RoboRhythms and community threads. Treat them as reported.
| Error text | Reported cause | Suggested fix |
|---|---|---|
| “Empty response received from API” | The model returned nothing, often a provider filter | Regenerate, rephrase or switch model |
| “You have neither trial credits nor an active subscription” | Free daily allowance used, or too many requests at once | Wait for the reset, close other tabs, or subscribe |
| “Failed to fetch” with a reverse proxy | The proxy link is wrong | Check that the link ends in /chat/completions |
| “Error authenticating. Please refresh the page.” | Expired login token | Refresh or log in again |
| “The model does not exist” | API and model choice belong to different providers | Pick a model that matches the selected API |
| 401, 402 or 429 with your own key | Bad key, no balance, or rate limit | Check the key, top up, or slow down |
Rate limits with your own key
If you connect through OpenRouter, its documentation says free models are limited to 20 requests a minute and 50 a day, rising to 1,000 a day once you have bought at least 10 credits. A negative balance can cause 402 errors even on free models. These limits apply whatever app you use OpenRouter through.
Step-by-step fixes
- Check the status page and community posts. If many people report the same problem, wait.
- Hard refresh. Use Ctrl+F5 or Ctrl+Shift+R on Windows, or Cmd+Shift+R on Mac. RoboRhythms reports that repeatedly pressing ordinary refresh can keep a cached error page alive, so use a hard refresh.
- Clear cached data for chub.ai. Clear cache and cookies for the site only, or try a private window. You will need to sign in again.
- Check your API under Secrets. Confirm the right API is selected, the key is pasted correctly, and the model belongs to that provider.
- Generate a fresh key if errors persist. Keys can be revoked or break.
- Check the provider’s status and balance. If you use OpenAI, Anthropic, Google or OpenRouter, look at their status pages and your account balance.
- Try another model. RoboRhythms reports that during one outage some desktop users got replies by switching to a different Chub model. That is a single report.
- Start a new chat for model glitches. If replies repeat or drift into another language, regenerate or begin again. Clearing chat memory can help if old summaries are confusing the model.
- Contact Chub about billing. A third-party guide reports that payment problems go to Chub’s support address listed at chub.ai/support. We could not confirm the address.
Worked example
You connect your own OpenRouter key and every reply fails with a 429 late in the day, while Chub’s own model still works. That points away from Chub and towards your OpenRouter free-model limit. Switching to a paid model, adding credits, or waiting for the daily reset are the options. Re-entering the same key will not reset the limit.
Regional restrictions
RoboRhythms reports that since mid-2026 some content is hidden in search for users in certain countries and US states, and that a family-friendly feed while signed in is the usual sign. We could not confirm this from Chub. If parts of the site look empty rather than broken, a regional restriction may be the cause rather than an outage. Follow the law where you live.
If nothing works
If Chub keeps failing, or the setup is more than you want to manage, compare other platforms. Our Character.AI alternatives page and the companion matcher can help. Janitor AI works in a similar way with proxies; see Janitor AI not working and Janitor AI responses too short. For Character.AI, see Character.AI not working.
What we could not confirm
- The contents of Chub’s status page and its official support contact.
- Chub’s current free daily allowance, payment methods and subscription tiers, which third-party sources report changed in 2026.
- Chub’s minimum age rule. Its terms page did not load for us; we treat the platform as adults-only because its docs describe it as uncensored.

Frequently asked questions
Is Chub AI down right now?
An article cannot give live status. Third-party guides point to a Chub status page at chub.ai/status that shows API and model health, and to the r/Chub_AI subreddit for outage reports. Check both.
Why is Chub AI showing a blank blue page?
One third-party guide says this is often a browser that cached an error page after a site update, rather than an outage, and that a hard refresh usually clears it. We could not confirm this from Chub.
Why does Chub say 'Empty response received from API'?
Community guides attribute it to the connected model returning nothing, often because of the provider's content filter or a temporary provider problem. Regenerate, try another model, or check the provider's status.
Where do I set up the API in Chub?
Chub's documentation says you configure the API under Secrets before you can chat, and adjust prompts and generation parameters under Configuration, reached from the menu at the top right.
Is Chub AI free?
Chub's docs describe paid options, including its own Mars models by subscription, and a free route if you connect a model you host yourself via Kobold or Ooba. A third-party guide reports a small daily free allowance on Chub's own models; we could not confirm the current number.
